FAQs
What questions can I answer for you?
I’ve never practiced yoga before, where do I start?
Start by taking a deep breath. From there you can do anything. There are so many beginner classes out there, including many online classes you can try out at home. If you decide on an in person (when that’s a thing again) or private class, let the teacher know you are new to practice so that he or she can help you modify.
I approach my practice and my teaching with a beginner’s mind. I want yoga to be accessible and approachable to every one. For my private students, I design a practice around their individual needs that meets them where they are and builds over time to help them expand their practice.
I am not flexible, I can’t do yoga. Can I?
Yes! Yoga isn’t all about bending yourself into a pretzel. I believe that every body is a yoga body. Yoga is perfect for helping increase flexibility. And there are modifications for every posture. Yoga meets you where you are every time.
Do I need special props or clothing to practice yoga?
No. Technically all you need to practice yoga is your breath and your body. I do like teaching with props, as I believe they help increase proper alignment and help with modifications. However, they are not required. As for clothing, I recommend comfortable clothing that is not to loose. But it does not need to be fancy or expensive or have a designer label.
The props I typically use are a yoga strap (you can also use a belt, tie, dog leash, etc.), a yoga block, and a blanket (a beach towel or cushion/bolster also work). But again, if you don’t have these right now, don’t worry about it! You can still get the full benefits of your practice.
What if I have a preexisting condition, injury, or illness?
I always ask students with a preexisting injury, illness, or other condition to speak with their doctor before beginning a yoga practice. Then you and I can develop a practice that supports and benefits your unique body and overall health.
